A Head Girl who kept opening doors behind her
Tali Luamanuvae attended McAuley High School from 2013 to 2017, serving as Head Girl in her final year. Guided by a strong sense of community, she went on to complete a conjoint degree in Law and Arts at the University of Auckland, graduating in 2023, and now works as a solicitor at a boutique commercial law firm in Auckland, specialising in finance and corporate law.
For years she rarely saw a face like hers in the rooms where decisions were made. In 2024, she established the Talioaiga Scholarship to change that - providing both financial assistance and mentorship, so the next young woman has the confidence and guidance to navigate her final year of school and the leap into university life.
Named after Tali's full name, The Talioaiga Foundation reflects a core value shared by many Pacific Island communities: that education is not only a personal achievement, but a gift to one's family and the wider community.
The name reflects the journey of many of our recipients, who are often the first in their family to pursue higher education or enter the legal profession. In this sense, they become the answers to their families and communities — agents of change who honour the belief that individual success contributes to the strength and progress of the wider community.
